This “deep dive” will take you into the world of “levels” of leadership agility. Bill’s research for the book of the same name built upon earlier research which showed that, as leaders grow through well-established, measurable stages of personal development, they become more effective. Through 5 years of original research, Bill found that the core capacity that develops with each stage is agility. Further, he was able to identify the quantum leap in leadership agility enabled by each new stage – resulting in qualitatively different ways of leading organizational change, leading management teams, and navigating pivotal conversations.
As a short-hand, the Expert level is tactical. The Achiever level, which is strategic, is more hospitable to Agile adoptions. The Catalyst level, which embraces proactive action-learning and capacity-building, is the level best embodies core Agile principles. Unfortunately, the research shows that, to date, only about 10% of leaders have the ability to operate consistently at the Catalyst level.
Fortunately, with the right kind of challenge and support, it is possible to use this roadmap to develop higher levels of leadership agility.
Where are you now on the leadership agility spectrum? If you are in a role designed to facilitate change, where are the managers with whom you work? Through a case-study using audio clips, and a simple assessment handout, Bill will guide you through the three levels, help you identify where you (or they) are, and clarify what it looks like to go to the next level. You will be given the time to put together a succinct action plan with next steps.
